our History
Haskett Growers was founded in 1975 by the Elias and Buhler families, growing red and russet potatoes near Haskett, MB. Over the years, the Thiessen family took ownership and expanded operations.
By 1989, we began growing potatoes for Old Dutch Foods and later partnered with other producers to establish Heartland Fresh Pak Inc., a potato washing facility.
In 1996, the sugar beet industry in Manitoba ended with the closure of the Winnipeg factory. Haskett Growers acquired K&B Seeds’ seed potato farm and started growing seed potatoes in 1997.
In 2011, we expanded to the Rathwell/Treherne area, growing potatoes for the Simplot plant, and in 2015, we ventured into high-generation seed production by partnering with Prairie Dome.
Today, Haskett Growers is involved in growing chipping, processing, fresh, and seed potatoes, along with crops like grain corn, spring wheat, soybeans, and canola. Day-to-day operations are managed by C.E. Thiessen’s grandsons, supported by other dedicated family members and staff.
